Brandon grew up with a profound interest in aviation from going to air shows throughout his life. It was not until 2005 when he began his training and journey to becoming a professional pilot. After training, he became a flight instructor in Louisville, KY for a year until he landed his first career opportunity flying a Cessna Citation. He has been flying the Citation, King Air, and Pilatus PC-12 for the past eight years, but has kept his love of flying alive by teaching and passing along his experience to eager students. He moved back into the Lexington Area where he previously attended the University of Kentucky before transferring to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, to complete his Bachelors in Professional Aeronautics and minor in management. This move has allowed him to reunite with a friend and former co-pilot to start NexGen Aviation. Brandon has over 6000 hours of flying including 2500 hours of jet and turbo-prop time. He has been a flight instructor for nine years and has logged over 2600 hours of flight instruction.

Dale Gillispie – Co-Owner, Director of Operations, and Chief Flight Instructor

Dale has been flying for the past couple decades. He has thousands of hours flying and instructing, with the majority of his hours flying jets. Dale has experience in just about every facet of aviation including airlines, corporate, management, aircraft sales, charter brokership, flight training, charter, you name it. Dale has over 10 years experience in the airlines as a Captain for Comair and many years in corporate aviation. He currently flies a Bombardier Lear 40 out of Lexington. Dale is also serving as the Director of Operations for NexGen Aviation, LLC. Most of all, Dale enjoys the thrill of teaching new aviators and passing on his advice and experience to aspiring pilots. He wanted to start a flight school in his hometown of Lexington, KY to offer the best, most affordable flight training as an alternative to over priced flight schools in the area.

Tab Brinkman – Assistant Chief Pilot and Flight Instructor
Airline Transport PIlot, CFI, CFI-I, MEI

Tab is a recently retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel who brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the NexGen staff. He flew the mighty A-10 “Warthog” in combat in both Afghanistan and Iraq. He spent the last 10 years instructing in the T-37 and T-6 at the USAF premier pilot training base, Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training (ENJJPT). At ENJJPT, he not only taught basic aviation, aerobatics, instruments, formation and low-level flying, but he was in charge of training and evaluating the new instructors. He garnered numerous flying awards throughout his career, to include 6 combat Air Medals and 3major command safety “Well Done” awards. A graduate of UK’s AFROTC, he also has a master’s degree in aviation instruction for TUI University (summa cum laude). He attended the USAF Advanced Instrument School and was the Crew Resource Management (CRM) program manager for 240 instructor pilots. Tab is a Captain on the CJ, CJ2+, PC-12 and the lead instructor for NexGen’s formation training course.

Matt Doggett – Charter Pilot and Flight Instructor

Matt began flying when he was 16 in Lexington, KY. He went on to study Aerospace Management at Eastern Kentucky University, but life got in the way of him pursuing an aviation career when he was deployed to Afghanistan with his Kentucky Army National Guard unit. After finishing his deployment he settled into positions in business development for upstart web companies and a consulting firm. After a few years of working in an office he decided life between 4 walls wasn’t for him and began the NexGen Professional Pilot Career Program. Flying 3-4 times a week Matt earned his Private, Instrument, Commercial, CFI & MEI certificates with NexGen in just a years time. He has a genuine passion for aviation and enjoys sharing it with others. Matt is the Captain on the Cirrus SR22 Turbo and Second in Command in the CJ and CJ2+.

Jeremy Toppass – Flight Instructor

Jeremy is a former US Army Airborne Ranger and recently moved to KY with his wife and two sons. Jeremy trained through NexGen’s Professional Pilot Course and became one our lead flight instructors shortly after.

Dennis Mahan – Flight Instructor

Dennis offers over a decade of flying experience, and the desire to share what he knows with anyone willing to listen. He came to us in 2011 after years of flying in the challenging Rocky Mountains where he learned the art of flying little planes around big mountains, as well as the busy airspace around Phoenix, Az., offering a unique perspective to his students. Before becoming a certificated flight instructor, Dennis was an assistant simulator instructor in both single and multi-engine sims for two years while he earned his degree in aviation technology from Metro State University in Denver, Co. While his first passion is flying, he also enjoys hiking, snowboarding, woodworking, and brewing some pretty tasty beer.

Jim Donaldson – Chief Flight Instructor
ATP, Commercial Single and Multi, CFI, CFI-I, MEI and A&P

Jim has had a long and allustrious career in aviation. He’s flown over 22,000 hours and many aircraft throughout his career including the Lear 24 and 35, Citations, King Airs, Barons, and many more. He was the former Chief Pilot for Air Lexington.
